about

Lori LaRayne’s album Thirst, released in April 2021, is a solo acoustic project recorded with the raw, organic feel of a live performance. Her banjo-driven gothic folk songs take a singer-songwriter approach to explore the depths of human longing – for love, intimacy, and self-forgiveness.

The heart of this music is the lyrics: intimate, dark, and unapologetically emotional, yet at times leaning toward hope of better days ahead.

The stories and the sound are infused with modern energy, paying homage to diverse, timeless influences such as The Dresden Dolls, PJ Harvey, Bauhaus, Ludovico Einaudi, Lana Del Rey, and Johnny Cash.

Lori LaRayne's unique sound melds the traditional style of clawhammer banjo with a menagerie of unexpected instruments: banjo with piano, bowed bass, musical saw, and percussion.
